Dave Thomson’s smart little plan-built Chilton DW-1 has had a chequered history, and earlier attempts to
get it airborne have been plagued by a reluctant engine and very twitchy ground handling. The engine
is now more reliable (although still a little temperamental) and Dave has managed to get the
model airborne. The takeoff was a little dramatic (pictures on right), but once settled down the Chilton
flew very smoothly. It still shows a marked tendency to nose-over on the ground (much to the detriment of
the front of the undercarriage spats which are acquiring a nicely Baroque crinkly appearance), but
in other respects the model is coming together nicely.
